3 tips on how to properly care for your veneers

Caring for ceramic veneers is relatively simple and largely coincides with the usual care for the health of your natural teeth.

Here are a few tips I recommend you follow so you can enjoy your beautiful new smile for many years to come:

1) Regular cleaning with a brush, paste and floss is the law.

Proper, regular cleaning of the teeth prevents serious problems with your teeth and gums. Ceramic veneers are among the gentlest aesthetic restorations for the tissues of the natural tooth and gums currently available in dentistry. They're also exceptionally strong and durable, so don't worry about damaging them while brushing. Any non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste is suitable for cleaning veneers.

Cleaning morning and evening is the most important guarantee of a long life for your veneers.

2) If you know you suffer from bruxism or "grind" your teeth at night, be sure to tell your dentist.

Clenching or grinding the teeth is a common problem that patients often underestimate. If this problem isn't addressed, over time patients may start to complain of frequent headaches, increased tooth sensitivity, wear and even the chipping off of whole parts of the teeth.

Veneers, though exceptionally strong, cannot keep their integrity over the long term under this kind of load.

Relieving this problem is actually easy and extremely accessible. The dentist takes an impression of the patient's bite, and special transparent guards are made in a laboratory to protect the teeth from further wear. A thin plastic is used to make the individual guards. The guards aren't worn all the time, but mainly during sleep. For even better results, I recommend my patients combine wearing guards with various stress-reduction techniques, such as meditation, yoga or simply effective rest.

3) Don't skip your regular check-ups with the dentist

About a week after the veneers are permanently fixed, it's good to visit your dentist for a follow-up check-up. This visit is extremely important, because it gives the dentist the chance to assess the placement of the ceramic veneers and see how the gum tissue is responding. Don't hesitate to ask all the questions that have come up for you about your new smile. I recommend keeping up the rhythm of regular check-ups and tartar cleaning every 6-8 months for perfect, long-lasting results.

And most importantly – enjoy your new smile and don't hesitate to use it in every situation. It always helps :)
